Description: An introduction to high-performance computing, available research computing hardware facilities at UNC, parallel programming tools and utilities, as well as software packages' availability and access will be presented in this workshop. You will learn what hardware and software facilities are available on campus, how to subscribe to campus research computing services, how to compile your serial and parallel codes on various machines, serial and parallel computing basics, how to submit jobs via the load share facility (LSF), and file management techniques. Hands-on exercises will be provided.

Description: Historian, computer programer, telecommunications lawyer, and film producer Kathy Kleiman will speak about the women who programmed the first all-electronic programmable computer, ENIAC, over sixty years ago. She will talk about her efforts to produce a film documenting the unique and unsung accomplishments of these skilled mathematicians. The lecture is co-sponsored by Duke University's Office of the Provost, Office of Information Technology, Women in Science and Engineering, and RENCI.
